Rio Patuca
The Rio Patuca National Park was recently set up to keep intact one of the most valuable tracts of primary rainforest and indigenous culture. The eight night Rio Patuca trip is ideal for those who yearn for more adventure and want an intimate experience with nature and native cultures. THE TOURWe travel by 4-wheel drive Jeeps, foot, mule, cayuko (dugout canoe) and bush plane. The Rio Cuaymel and the Patuca River are the highways through this remote area populated by Sumo and Misquito Indians. Thatch roofed huts and open air platform camps with mosquito netting and bedrolls are our base for hiking and wildlife observation along the way. In small groups and with an experienced native guide we learn about the lush tropical jungle and its wildlife. Our close contact to the indigenous people - we share the traditional meals prepared by local people - give insight into the community life of the oldest civilisation of the region.
